About Me – Introduction

Hi, my name is Rachael, and I am going into my third year at UVic for my Bachelor of Elementary Education. I plan to finish my degree by 2028, and I hope to do a Master’s Degree during my first-year of teaching after being a TOC for a while.

I grew up in Coquitlam, BC, and moved here for the nature and slower-paced lifestyle during university. I love to run, to hike, and I find being outdoors very grounding. If you know of any hikes that I should do, please let me know! I also enjoy baking, sewing, thrifting, and spending time with my friends.

I have volunteered on both the mainland as well as here on the island. I volunteered in art summer camps there and in classrooms here. I just completed my first practicum in a Grade 7/8 class in Coquitlam, and I am already stoked for the next one. In the past, I worked as a sales associate for a bridal shop, and as a cashier at Whole Foods Market. Currently, I am tutoring, and I enjoy working with kids of various ages in Math, English, and French.

I enjoy English Language Arts, Mathematics, History when there is a more sociological aspect involved, arts, and Physical and Health Education. These are the subject areas that I am the most interested in teaching as well as for university courses.

I am very interested in how the up and coming applications can be used as tools for educators, and how we can use technology and multimedia learning to support diverse student needs.
